A worthwhile tax platform or a political suicide pact?

Following in my series of political advice not to be taken seriously this morning I will present the tax platform an economist thinks the NDP –or any party for that matter–should run an election on:

1.) Decrease or zero Corporate taxes

2.) An increase in the GST / HST

3.) The introduction of a new Carbon Tax

Now there is a tax platform that would sink any political ship.  No party is going to run on increasing taxes (unfortunately) and certainly no Party would think they could get away with 1 and then 2 and / or 3.  Similarly no party is going to run on structural deficits going forward.  Interestingly no party is really going to want to run on a platform of significant decreases to program spending either.  So I suspect that we are going to see a lot of Taxes increases by Stealth (TIS) whatever parties do get elected or have just recently been elected.  Exhibit A the BC liberal party.
