Krugman, he is bugging me again

In his recent blog, “FDR, Reagan, and Obama”, PK argues that:

More and more, it’s becoming clear that progressives who had their hearts set on Obama were engaged in a huge act of self-delusion. Once you got past the soaring rhetoric you noticed, if you actually paid attention to what he said, that he largely accepted the conservative storyline, a view of the world, including a mythological history, that bears little resemblance to the facts.

And confronted with a situation utterly at odds with that storyline … he stayed with the myth.

Puke. Myth???? He stayed with the money you peasant.

Oh god it is this bad; Very Reasonable Men like Krugman are resorting to psychic pain models.

Fuck all is lost.

Update: Toronto called saying they did not understand.

There is no way Obama believes the Myth. You just can’t be Obama and believe the myth. You can, however, be Obama and believe that believing the myth is good for Obama. But that is different than believing the Myth.

  1. No not really. I am just pointing out that Obama is looking to cash in when he is no longer President. His future depends on him holding to a particular ideology. What is clear is that being President is a CV building exercise for Obama. That there is not one block inside his administration nor in the democratic or republican party who understand what the role of capitalist state is during an economic crisis requires something like the thesis of ideological capture.
